S/y Fanny revisited

Suddenly a year had gone by since I had done the delivery of Fanny from Thailand to France. Time goes so fast these days. The Owner called me up and asked to help to renew cover and find better berthing as well as think of charters and/ or selling the vessel as he needed funds for his next project to sail single handed around the world on a trimaran.

Well, said and done. I checked the marinas in Italy and found out that Aregai was still the cheapest in the area as well there I found a broker who was willing to take Fanny on his books, incidentally he had been a Lagoon representative back in the day in Italy and sold quite a few of them.

Then came the more complicated part, the insurance said they will renew the cover but without any amendments to traffic area or the price, this was due to the act that Fanny was under Malaysian registry. I asked what has that got to do with anything and got reply that several Russian owners had transitioned to Malaysian registry after the sanctions kicked in and I suppose other flags had subsequently kicked them out. However I was also told that if she would change flag then the policy could be reviewed.

Said and done and after a bit of research I found that the Polish flag is increasingly popular these days and not overly expensive either. So I go tin touch with them, I also de-registered Fanny from Malaysia and put in the paperwork for the Polish registry. As it was summer it took a few weeks to receive despite the 3-5 day registry advertised on their website. Eventually I got the provisional registry and then followed the full term certificate.

Having sorted that out I went to the underwriters and applied for a new cover, I got it easily now without any bigger issues. As usual, always read the policy through properly to avoid mistakes, I found a few to remark on. Got a good deal with Döhle and in case the boat sold the remainder would be refunded pro-rata or transferred to new Ownership.

After this it was onto the broker to make papers with him and get the boat spick-n-span for photoshoot etc. so websites could be uploaded with the data. The broker Gianluca from Seasideyachts gave a very professional impression. Owner had already emptied the boat in France from personal and extra stuff so it was easy to do clean up and minor repairs and fixes that still needed doing. Had the Vectron serviced by a local electronics guy in the marina and then we had the fire-extinguishers checked, new liferaft and renewed some lines.

Then we got from the marina the berth for long term at the wavebreaker wall and moored there bow first so one could sit on the aft and look astern over the reception jetty and fuel dock across. Much livelier than to stare at the 4-5m tall wall instead. Now only need to wait for the buyer to come by. Then to top it off we moored her really tightly with 4 groundlines to the stern and 4 lines at the bow.
