Las Casas

Entrance to Las Casas

In Bagac, Bataan there's a 400ha estate named Las Casa Filipinas de Azucar after the founder Mr Jose Acuzar. It's an enormous collection of historical houses from all over the Philippines.

The guide told us that buildings had been dismantled at location, all parts numbered and catalogued. Then transported to Bagac and erected there after some remedial when required. As per their website it's a resort, museum and park, all rolled in one. Las Casas is built on the mouth of a local river. The on-site map even shows a huge yacht marina, which is yet to be developed, the basin is there but no berths.

There was also a display about the 2nd WW death march

We first went on a boat tour that was included in our day pass and the boat was basically a floating glassfibre barge with a small outboard to get around the canals. The skipper was also doubling as a guide and shared a lot details of the estate and buildings.

Frog the size of a fist shared our lunch experience, he was very quiet in his corner

We did our first (and only) stop at one of the Batangas houses, there were 3 of them in total. Their origin was from Balayan city and they did ring a bell in my mind having seen other similar buildings still standing in Balayan. It was now interesting to see one of these buildings from the inside and their layout as it was in the olden days when there was no a/c or electricity.

After the house tour we were piled back on the barge and we set about going around the canals and watching various details until the skipper maneuvered us back from where we had started. As we climbed off we then went for some lunch at the local restaurant. It was a cozy venue, the only disturbance was a huge frog that I guess had escaped from the heat and was chilling n one of the corners of the dining room.

Having had a massive lunch (I never seem to get it right with the serving sizes) we rolled out of the restaurant and walked around various buildings, picked up a few fridge magnets and thought the time has come to head back to Subic where our hotel was. All in all, a very impressive venue, it has a lot to offer but possibly not enough to be discovered in a day so I think a night or two might give one more bang for the buck so to speak.
