Many people want to rent berths in the North harbor in Ekenäs, but in order to benefit tourism, the city does not want to rent out the berths permanently, but instead offers the berth to charter boats.

During the past year, several have applied for a permanent berth for larger ships in the North Harbor in Ekenäs.

During the technical committee's meeting on 21.2, it was decided, among other things, to deny the three-masted gaff schooner Anny von Hamburg a long-term berth in the North Harbour. It is above all the quay corner on the north-west and south-west side of restaurant GH Fyren that arouses great interest.

The city notes that long-term rentals are not the most efficient way to use the wharf. The Technical Committee believes that there are no conditions for long-term berth rentals for larger boats.

- But the many requests regarding long-term berths for larger boats are now also taken into account in the new harbor plan, says the chairman of the technical committee Britt-Marie Granström (SFP).

Want to attract charter boats instead

In order to be able to use the quays in the North Harbor as efficiently as possible, the technical board instead proposes that the city reserve the quay for charter traffic, archipelago cruises and connecting traffic. The boats that want to use the quay can reserve a time through a booking system.

- In this way, we deny no one access to the berths and the solution would benefit all the actors who have now been in contact with Raseborg regarding berths for larger boats that are aimed at tourists, says Britt-Marie Granström.

For the technical board's decision to work, the quay in question must first be emptied. Now, among other things, the tugboat Tyr is at the quay. The committee wants the quay to be empty from 1st of June.

The 27-metre three-masted schooner Anny von Hamburg called into port in Ekenäs on Thursday afternoon (6.6). The owners are showing off the 110-year-old German beauty for a few days.

Now Anny is in the North Harbor for a few days. The ship sailed from Helsinki on Wednesday, stopped for the night in Barösund in Ingå, continued the journey on Thursday and called at the port of Ekenäs on Thursday afternoon.

The Anny von Hamburg is a gaff schooner built in 1914. The sailboat once functioned as a cargo ship but was rebuilt into a private yacht in the 1980s.

The cargo space has been converted into cabins with wc and shower, but otherwise efforts have been made to restore Anny von Hamburg to its original condition.

The owners of the Anny von Hamburg plan to take people, such as families, on a cruise.

They have taken this three-masted schooner to Ekenäs to get publicity, says one of Anny's owners, Juha Pokka, but also to show the locals and perhaps also the politicians what it would look like if it was moored here for a longer period of time.

Anny did not get a berth in Ekenäs

Last spring it was rumored that Anny would have Ekenäs as its home port. The idea was that it would stand at the corner of the quay next to the restaurant in North Port, roughly where a tug (Tyr) has been moored over the winter.

The technical committee in Raseborg, on the other hand, said no to a long-term berth for Anny von Hamburg. There is no room for an almost 30 meter long boat.

The chairman of the technical board said that the city instead reserves the berth for charter traffic, archipelago cruises and connecting traffic. The boats that want to use the quay can reserve a time through a booking system. This is to be able to use the berths in the North Port as efficiently as possible.

So Anny von Hamburg did not come to Ekenäs in 2023.

What happens after the trip to Ekenäs is not completely decided. Anny von Hamburg will probably return to Helsinki. However, it is intended that the 110-year-old German beauty will participate in the Tall ships race in Turku July 18-21, but not to compete, just for display and publicity.

"This is Anny's home port, she is from Ekenäs" - the politicians in Raseborg can reconsider regarding the schooner Anny von Hamburg

Text by Bubi Asplund

A new application by the owner for a berth in the North harbor in Ekenäs can give the green light in the technical committee in Raseborg. Anny von Hamburg's skipper thinks the ship belongs in Ekenäs.

The technical committee in Raseborg may consider changing its negative decision from last year regarding the question of whether the schooner Anny von Hamburg should be allowed to be moored at the North Harbor in Ekenäs.

The board decided last year that the ship will not get a berth. The justification was that the 30 meter long vessel cannot fit in the port.

The berth Anny von Hamburg's owner wanted is reserved for charter, traffic, archipelago cruises and connecting traffic.

Now the committee's chairman Britt-Marie Granström (SFP) says that the decision may be different if the ship's owner submits a new application to the city.

- A stately boat would fit very well into the cityscape and perhaps become an attraction, says Granström.

The matter is yet to be discussed in the committee.

- The pier is in such poor condition that it is not a long-term berthing place at the moment. But now it would be good to get a solution so that we could have this boat here in the port.

Britt-Marie Granström says she would like to see the city find a positive solution to the issue.

Juha Pokka, who is the skipper on board Anny von Hamburg, says that it will be expensive to have the ship moored in the North Harbor as the situation is now. The ship has been in the North Harbor for a long time.

- We've been solving some technical issues, like pumps and stuff that we've been working on now, he says.

The ship will soon sail to Turku and then to Mariehamn. If and if so when Anny von Hamburg returns to Ekenäs is unclear.

- We'll see, it's a cost issue. We cannot continue to pay guest boat fees like this. We have started our business quite recently. We'll see what we do in the future.

Anny von Hamburg has a berth in Helsinki.

- But it is not very good for us. We have registered Ekenäs as our home port. Anny is from Ekenäs, he says.

Anny von Hamburg gets a guest berth instead of a berth: "We can't afford it"

Text by: Eva Hällsten

The schooner Anny von Hamburg wanted a berth in the North harbor in Ekenäs but was offered a guest berth. The owners can't afford it.

The marina in the North harbor in Ekenäs has offered the schooner Anny von Hamburg an opportunity to continue berthing in the corner of the quay next to the restaurant. The owners do not want to continue paying guest harbor prices.

- With electricity, it is approximately 45 euros per day. We cannot afford to pay such prices every day, says Juha Pokka, who is one of Anny's owners.

The owners of Anny von Hamburg wish for a berth in the North Harbour. If Anny gets a berth, Norra hamnen would become Anny's new home port and it would be significantly cheaper.

The berth that Anny has in Helsinki costs 600 euros a month.

- We might come back when the season is over and the guest harbor has closed. Then we can discuss what we should pay when it is autumn and rains have started.

Anny von Hamburg is now in Åland and will stay there as long as possible. If Anny does not get a berth in Ekenäs this autumn, Anny will sail back to Helsinki where her home port is now.

Raseborg wants to find a solution

The city of Raseborg has a contract with the guest marina operator and it is the company that takes care of the quays in the North Harbor.

- In August, we will discuss with all parties and try to find a solution, says Britt-Marie Granström (SFP (Swedish soc.dem. party)), who chairs the technical committee in Raseborg.

She adds that there are several who have applied for berths in the same place.

- We have too few berths, says Granström.

Granström herself thinks that Anny fits into the cityscape and that it is positive to have businesses that attract tourists.

Anny's owner applied for a berth in North port last year, but the city of Raseborg said no. The city has not made a new decision regarding Anny since then, points out Mayor Petra Theman.

The schooner Anny von Hamburg got a berth in Ekenäs
Text by: Minna Almark

The sailing vessel Anny von Hamburg now has a permanent berth in the North port in Ekenäs.

Raseborg will charge a rent of 400 euros per month for the period between May 1 and August 15. The rest of the year the rent is 100 euros per month. The ship's owner pays for water, electricity and waste disposal according to consumption.

According to the agreement with Anny von Hamburg's owner, there must always be room for charter traffic between the sailing vessel and the slip platform in the North port. The owners must always notify if the vessel is away for more than seven days so that the city can rent the berth to someone else during the high season.

The ship's owner also applied last year for a berth in North port, but then the city of Raseborg said no. The technical committee felt that there were no conditions for renting berths for a longer period of time to larger vessels. Instead, the politicians wanted to reserve the berths for charter traffic, archipelago cruises and archipelago traffic.

Last summer, the ship's owner announced that they could not afford to pay the fee for a guest berth in the North port. When the electricity was included, it was a sum of around 45 euros per day.

The berth that Anny von Hamburg previously had in Helsinki costs 600 euros a month.

Anny von Hamburg is a 38 meter long sailing ship and has Ekenäs as its home place. The owners now want to participate and, among other things, discuss with the city how to develop tourism around Ekenäs.
