Then I had the chance to see these famous vessels in port as well, the two South African "S.A. Agulhas" research vessels, the older one retired as a SAMSA training ship for cadets and the other the reigning research tool for the SA National Antarctic Programme. The S. A. Agulhas II is a South African icebreaking polar supply and research ship owned by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA). She was built in 2012 by STX Finland in Rauma, Finland. I checked on Equasis and turns out that Agulhas went to Docklands, UK in 2012 and they were subjected to a Port State inspection in Nov 2012 that resulted in 7 deficiencies (their first and only inspection so far).
