Jakarta shipspotting

m/v Alexindo 8

Having sat a few weeks on the roads of Jakarta over NY 2022 and beginning 2023 I had a good opportunity to take pictures of local coasters coming and going.

General:
Name: Alexindo 8
IMO no: 8349658 with MMSI: 525010202 callsign: JZEP
Type: General Cargo Ship
Built: 11/2002 in China by shipyard: Zhejiang Yueqing Qiligang Shipbuilding.
Classification: Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia.
Main Dimensions:
Length overall: 86.60 m, Length between perpendicles: 79.80 m, beam: 13.50 m, draught: 5.50 m,
Tonnages: Dead weight: 3,500 tons, Gross tonnage 2566.

As per ASEAN.org ship registration in Indonesia is based on ownership by Indonesian citizen/ BHI (closed registry). Looking her up on the interwebs I got a hit and it is reported she suffered a fire in her galley about a year after I saw her. Other than that she seems to be of a very low profile:

"Alexindo 8 Burns in Batam, Bakamla RI, Evacuates 15 Crew

Wednesday, 21 Feb 2024 by Fajar Pratama - detikNews

Bakamla RI through its elements, namely Ular Laut-405 and Catamaran 508, evacuated passengers and extinguished the m/v Alexindo 8 which was on fire in Batam. (Bakamla dock).

Alexindo 8, an Indonesian-flagged vessel owned by Alexindo Yakin Prima, caught fire in the waters of Labuh Jangkar Tanjung Pinggir, Batam. Bakamla Riau Islands (RI) through its elements, namely Ular Laut-405 and Catamaran 508, evacuated passengers and extinguished the ship.

Initially, Catamaran 508, which was carrying out the Garda Nusa II Patrol around the waters of the Singapore Strait, received information from the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) that a fire incident had occurred on m/v Alexindo 8 today, Wednesday (21/2/2024), at 14.30.

Based on information from Bakamla, the captain of m/v Alexindo 8, Joko Sampir, said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the galley which was immediately discovered by the chef. Seeing this, the chef immediately shouted 'fire' and immediately the entire ship's crew brought APAR.

"However, because the fire spread too quickly, the ship's crew could not control the fire. So, Chief Engineer turned off the generator and closed the engine room door, then the entire crew got out of the ship," said Bakamla RI's Young Expert Public Relations Officer Captain Bakamla Yuhanes Antara.

The ship's captain immediately contacted the nearest ship, namely Catamaran 508 owned by Bakamla RI. Knowing this, Bakamla RI immediately headed to coordinates 01 ° 09 592 N 103 ° 57 096 E, to evacuate the ship.

At 14.55, Catamaran 508 arrived at the scene and immediately evacuated the crew from Alexindo 8 to provide assistance.

"The results of the evacuation resulted in 15 victims, with 1 person suffering minor burns and no fatalities. At 15.25, Catamaran 508 headed to Pier 99 for further evacuation," he said.

Upon arrival at Bintang 99 Pier at 15.40, the victim was evacuated onto the Parikesit Police Ship and first aid was provided by Bakamla RI personnel to the victim who had suffered minor burns.

The extinguishing was carried out by Ular Laut-405 owned by Bakamla RI, KRI Bubara-868 owned by the Indonesian Navy, and TB Megamas Sky. In this safety patrol, the parties involved include Bakamla RI, the Indonesian Navy, the Indonesian National Police, and Basarnas."

Out of this I can only find that Alexindo 8 is supposedly owned/managed by a shipping/ logistics company called P.T. Alexindo Yakin Prima based in Jakarta. As per another website they have only only 4 ships and Alexindo 8 is not anymore on the list. Also her AIS pings seems to be very irregular after her fire, possibly she was condemned after that incident...

Judging of the look I believe these are 2nd hand coasters from Japan, the picture sharpness is not sufficient to identify them reliably. Jakarta in the background. Also seems to be very popular to be able to self load and discharge with the excavator on the hatch.

Despite the best of will I was not able to identify this one either. Looks like a general cargo ship of approx 80m and most likely 30+ years old.

Roads of Jakarta

I can see the name is long like a hunger year but impossible to discern it. She's a small general cargo/ container feeder with a heavy duty crane midships. Maybe around 20 years old.
